ThomsonAdsett Architectural Student Deborah Morris recently took out the Second Prize and People’s Choice prize at the Brisbane 4000-Ideas Competition.
The competition brief was to design a new transit hub for the Cultural Centre, in Brisbane’s South Bank. The judges said Deborah’s design promoted a sense of mindfulness that would engage the public.
“Rather than having something that had dead spaces that people go through to and from work with people disengaged, this entry actually took the philosophy of setting out to engage people in the process and created an opportunity to “reboot” during the daily commute. We thought the scale respects the neighbouring heritage of South Brisbane Station without mimicking it or copying materials, and it was quite elegant with the way it engaged and integrated in with the existing infrastructure, and not many entries did that. We thought this entry did it very well and tied a new piece of infrastructure into the existing, which adds further value to what’s already there.”
