We designed the refurbishment of three teaching spaces in The University of Queensland’s Steele Building.
The space was particularly challenging as we needed to deliver a significant interior upgrade, while managing the constraints of the existing building fabric and services.
The largest space is a 300+ seat theatre with dual and cinema projection capability. We designed the Blackbutt ceiling to fracture and break down the overall scale of the space. The geometry is replicated in the seating, where orange chairs break up the mass of seats and indicate locations where users can access power.
