Situated on a sloped elongated site, this extension to a hospital met challenges in its design and construction. The original hospital comprised a 130-bed hospital block built in the 1960s, a nursing school, and a 10-storey administrative block and staff quarters.
The nursing school and administrative block were demolished and a new hospital block was built to accommodate new wards, outpatient clinics, specialty and day surgery centres, operating theatres, various hospital services, an auditorium and new car parking facilities.
The redevelopment project was carried out in two stages to maintain continuous operation of the hospital.
