Deakin University Geelong Waterfront Campus Student Accommodation

This project provides apartment accommodation for over 400 students, structured around an engaging social inner core.

The design draws inspiration from the adjacent wool store buildings. A six-storey arch cuts through the building’s form to reflect the scale of nearby wool stores.

White precast concrete forms create a backdrop to celebrate the ‘individual’ within the wider university collective.

Views of the bay, iconic pier, station, library and city are afforded from rooms, study pods and social spaces on the rooftop.

The design maximises social interaction between residents by retaining lounges and social areas in a central location, wrapped around an atrium space.

This project was delivered in collaboration with nettletontribe.

ThomsonAdsett provided inspirational and innovative design direction to a challenging landmark student accommodation facility for Deakin University at the Waterfront Geelong Campus.

ThomsonAdsett’s outside-the-square design deftly captures the balance between the bayside location and the existing historical wool stores.
