Brisbane State High School’s Kurilpa Building redevelopment inclusive of Year 7

Our design for the Brisbane State High new year-level building features collaborative spaces at each corner of the block, to provide students and teachers with a visual link to the culturally significant Musgrave Park and city.

Other design features include an 1800sqm under croft, feature art gallery/terrace with city views, creative use of colour, collaborative staff areas, extensive GLAs with articulated inner corridor walls and an inner courtyard with a 500 student events space.

We reduced the Schematic Design Project Plan program from 16 to 10 weeks, while obtaining the approval of all associated parties.

This project is our third commission for the school following the successful completion of the Masterplan and Kurilpa Pavilion projects.

Process

The project needed to consider a temporary works strategy, refurbishment in part of heritage-listed assets, extensive connecting bridge links and walkways and other minor refurbishments to enable the overall development.
