Our design for this 60 bed, ageing-in-place building adjoins an existing high-care facility we previously designed.
We needed to be particularly sensitive to the size of the building, to ensure it didn’t appear to overshadow the neighbourhood. To overcome this challenge, we designed the facility as a series of terrace houses, with each pair of rooms presenting as a house to the street.
Our design considers the way people move through the building, and has resulted in an internal pedestrian “street”. This provides access to the whole facility and acts as a community activity zone to encourage resident interaction.
