East Gippsland Shire Council – WORLD Sporting Precinct
A redevelopment and expansion allowing hosting of large-scale events for multiple sports.
WORLD Sporting Precinct will be a multi-purpose outdoor sports venue located in the regional Victorian town of Bairnsdale.
A major $14 million redevelopment and expansion of the precinct is due to be completed in late 2022. It will feature eight netball courts, two hockey pitches, two soccer pitches and two identical pavilions. Netball and hockey will share the WORLD pavilion located between each sporting zone, while another pavilion sits between the soccer pitches.
Both pavilions have office space, competition changing rooms, training rooms, a commercial kitchen, amenities and function area to cater for each sport. Netball has an additional marshalling building located next to the show court with a large office and storage room. Two netball courts have line marking overlayed for futsal and goal storage provided nearby.
WORLD Sporting Precinct is capable of hosting large-scale events for regional, national and international sporting championships on any given day with over 200 on-site car parking bays and four bus bays.
A Project Reference Group (PRG), including community representatives and user groups, met regularly throughout the planning process and helped guide the redevelopment. The project is being undertaken by East Gippsland Council with state and federal funding.
