The redevelopment created a new hotel and resort destination in Papua New Guinea.

Loloata Private Island Resort is a uniquely-designed luxury boutique resort that truly engages with its natural landscape.

The island is small and elongated, with a steep ridge line that extends the length of the island. ThomsonAdsett’s design of the resort strategised the siting of accommodation and guest facilities to make optimal use of the habitable areas of the island, while maintaining the capital cost of services infrastructure at a manageable level. Undeveloped areas were rejuvenated for use as recreational areas or nature reserves by the resort’s guests.

The 68 tastefully appointed suites and villas are set over water or on the oceanfront, overlooking the private beach and neighbouring reefs. The compact nature of the development increases connectivity between the suites and the central amenities, while the self-sufficient, private villas are located further away offering greater seclusion.

The resort includes state of the art conference facilities and services, and is an exclusive wedding venue. Designed as a ‘gallery on an island’, Loloata Private Island Resort is a place of impressive scale, creating memorable and unexpected experiences for guests.
