A multi-site, multi-purpose regional health care hub

ThomsonAdsett was commissioned to design and document two new regional Oral Health and Cancer Care Centres in Hervey Bay and Bundaberg in Queensland located adjacent to but separate from the hospitals.

Facilities incorporated into the Cancer Care Centres include chemotherapy chairs, outpatient consulting rooms, a minor procedures room and staff office accommodation.

The Oral Health Centres include dental surgeries and laboratory facilities, plus a dedicated central supply department (CSD).

ThomsonAdsett provided full traditional architectural services for these concurrent projects. Our role included all phases from schematic design through to construction phase and post-construction services, including facilitation of project user group meetings plus full design and documentation in Revit. The meetings were successfully facilitated primarily on-site, though occasionally using video-conferencing facilities to maximise programming flexibility for busy clinical staff.

Both buildings involved construction of new facilities providing new, relocated or expanded health services. Whilst built on stand-alone sites adjacent to the Hervey Bay and Bundaberg hospitals, they share and augment health services provided by the existing hospitals, and play an integral role in the continuum of care provided by the Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service. Both buildings were planned in close consultation with hospital representatives to ensure operational alignment with existing facilities.
