Facilities designed for specialist clinicians, researchers and educators to collaborate and provide integrated care to consumers.

The Genomic Institute will bring together clinical care, education, and research with the collective goal of improving patient outcomes by accelerating the translation of genomics research into clinical practice. Genetic Health Queensland (GHQ) will form part of the clinical care function of the Genomic Institute and continue to provide public genetic services for the state, under a hub and spoke arrangement, for patients that are referred with multisystem (complex) conditions, rare diseases and for predictive genetic testing.

In 2021, ThomsonAdsett was commissioned by Metro North Health to design the new facilities for the Genomic Institute. Taking up two floors of Block 7 at the Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital, the Genomic Institute will provide facilities for specialist clinicians, researchers and educators to collaborate and provide integrated care to consumers requiring specialist genomic medicine treatment.

The Genomic Institute will include consulting and counselling facilities for clinical care, education and training facilities and workspace for 185 people including telehealth facilities, collaboration hubs, and production facilities for recording, hosting, and production of resources (including live or material that will be used post-recording).
