The transformation of a general learning classroom into a new moot court space to accommodate a mock judicial proceeding set-up to examine a hypothetical case as an academic exercise.
ThomsonAdsett’s Interior Design team was engaged to assist with the transformation of a general learning classroom into a new moot court space at the Australian Catholic University’s (ACU) Banyo Campus.
The new facility positively contributes to ACU’s mooting culture by providing law students with a dedicated, ‘real world’ space to hone their arguments and prepare for mooting competitions.
Having worked closely with ACU on the existing building, our team combined their previous knowledge of the client’s vision, culture and built environment goals with the functional requirements of a moot court space.
The palette of reds, blues, black and native timber pay homage to ACU’s branding story while complementing the materiality of the existing building. Flexibility was also a key driver; as such, every joinery and furniture piece in the space is moveable and adaptable to support both a moot court set-up and a general learning classroom arrangement.
The design was delivered on a cost-sensitive budget and ties into our ethos of creating multi-programmable education spaces that maximise utilisation and strengthens user engagement.
