A refurbishment that respects the building’s character and heritage.

The design of the Australian Catholic University Building 200 refurbishment embraces user needs and respects the building’s character and heritage. In keeping with the design of the Mercy Building – also designed by ThomsonAdsett – the refurbishment promotes a sense of equality and accessibility. Here, the user experience honours the attributes and qualities of the wider campus.

Artworks and bespoke timber craftsmanship combine to create a warm and welcoming experience. Building materials have been thoughtfully selected to complement the existing building fabric. As such, solid silky oak timber joinery aligns with, and enhances, the recent boardroom fitout.

Maximising natural light and leveraging the site’s views were prioritised in the design. Heritage preservation and intuitive wayfinding were also keys to the success of the design solution. Individual offices feature glazed frontages to capture light and views. User needs and functionality are well served by comfortable break-out spaces, waiting areas, accessible meeting rooms, quiet rooms and social areas.
