Brisbane architect best in the world for retirement living design – ThomsonAdsett featured in news.com.au

BRISBANE architecture firm ThomsonAdsett has taken out the top position in Building Design’s World Architecture 100 in the global elderly living sector for 2017.

The list ranks the world’s largest architectural practices of 2017 by sector and industry, and surveys more than 1400 practices across the globe.

ThomsonAdsett managing director Chris Straw said the practice continues to conceive new and innovative ways to tackle the challenges of an ageing population.

“We’re thrilled to take out the top ranking for 2017,” he said.

“We’ve really invested in the Australian and Asian elderly living markets over the past 20 years, and are excited to keep growing our already strong portfolio.”

ThomsonAdsett is one of the few Australasian firms to rank prominently in the global elderly living sector.

“The increasing need for seniors living and aged care is pushing us to continue learning and improving our approach to elderly living design,” Mr Straw said.

The companies projects in Queensland include St. Paul’s Residential Aged Care in Brisbane and The Cairns Residential Care Centre.

The St. Paul’s project is a 5-star accommodation focused on providing an independent lifestyle.

Flexible design allows for different levels of care, so residents can stay in their apartments once they require more assistance.

Recently completed elderly care and living projects by ThomsonAdsett include Streeton Park in Melbourne, Jeta Gardens and a number of large-scale projects in China and Malaysia.

The firm also featured in World Architecture 100’s “Ones to Watch” category, as one of 25 firms best placed to rank in the top 100 in 2018.
