Port Central 1

Port Central 1 is the catalyst project for the Port of Brisbane Corporation’s new master planned office park at the mouth of the Brisbane River. The building program is 2 vertical office spaces divided by an internal / external space. The building folds and articulates to shelter the internal spaces.

Natural light dominates internally as daylight floods in from both sides of every tenancy via the 3-storey atrium. The atrium provides natural ventilation to general circulation spaces and plentiful natural light. Motorised sunshades make full use of natural daylight. Rainwater is harvested in underground storage tanks and recycled. The chiller plant cools water overnight when ambient temperatures are lower, and is stored for use during the day.

The client’s brief for this commercial building was that environmentally sustainable design principles form the foundation of the design concept. Port Central 1 has achieved this goal with the award of a 5-star Green Star rating by the Green Building Council of Australia.
