Linking multiple tertiary facilities in a ‘Knowledge Village’ in Central Queensland.
The site layout has been developed to complement the overall Central Queensland University (CQU) campus and to integrate the Central Queensland Institute of TAFE (CQIT) and the School Trade Training Centre (STTC) as one overall holistic development, whilst preserving the individual requirements of both entities.
At a macro scale, the design creates a cohesive plan arrangement with the STTC and CQIT buildings arranged in a complementary and connected manner. A clear delineation between the workshops and training rooms continues the legible planning with hub spaces creating connections between these domains. At a micro scale, the associated detailing of the canopies and screens create a distinctive and unique setting.
The site layout has been conceived to promote pedestrian friendly areas whilst retaining the required vehicular access to the periphery, to integrate the CQIT and STTC components with connecting landscapes and covered ways and to create a learning environment that promotes trades, skills and succession from the STTC to the CQIT.
